Simply put the Kalamazoo Promise provides all or part of the the college tuition for Kalamazoo Public School System students.  A group of anonymous donors created this innovative idea to provide an economic boost to the area as well as to provide a well needed option to higher education costs for the residents of Kalamazoo. 

The "Promise" has spurred other communities to try to duplicate, and a negative fall out of the program are talks of millege increase whereby tax payers would foot the bill.  This slippery slope is worrisome.  However, economic benefits may prove worthwhile if the program is offered statewide.  The Kalamazoo Promise has increased sales of lots and land 380% as reported in a recent article in Michigan Realtor.  While overall sales increased 3% in the Kalamazoo Public Schools district sales in other neighboring districts went down.
